Eileen with the Good Heart - Pt 2

Eileen with the Good Heart - Pt 2

The next day, Eileen and Caleb set out again. She went out as far as she felt comfortable, dropped anchor, removed the middle seat and lay on her back. Eileen closed her eyes and focused only on whales. This time Caleb understood the assignment and lay down next to her. He rustled his nose under her arm and both of their good hearts went out into the ocean. This time Eileen waited a whole two hours before getting up to check. She figured if calls can travel hundreds of miles, it would take some time for the whales to swim there. She awoke from her trance and scanned the horizon. Splash! A breach but it wasn't a whale. A single porpoise popped its head up to say hello 20 yards from the boat. Caleb did his best barking but the porpoise wasn't phased, it dipped below the water to resurface 10 yards closer. Did it work? Did Eileen actually communicate with sea animals using her good heart?. She couldn't wait to tell Maura. The day after that, Eileen sent out her good hear and two porpoises showed up. The day after that, an entire pod! And the day after that, Eileen's dream, a pod of right whales 100 yards from the boat. One spout, two, three, four. She couldn't believe her eyes, she had never felt more connected to nature in her whole life. The next day Eileen almost didn't go out on the boat. The day before was magical and she didn't want to get greedy. She had a good heart. But Caleb was now accustomed to his two hour nap on the boat so out they went. Eileen laid down with Caleb but all she cold think about were the whales yesterday. She soon dozed off to sleep dreaming about whales. Then all of the sudden. Bang! Something hit the side of the boat and Eileen was startled awake. Again, bang. Eileen leapt up, looked over the side of the boat to see a lone orca whale. She was astonished. Orca's are not native to the Cape, she wondered why one would travel so far. Did it hear her? If so, what did she say to it? The orca seemed friendly, it was curious of Eileen and Caleb, especially Caleb. And Call didn't know what to think of the whale, his tail wagged with nervous excitement. The orca would allow Caleb to sniff and Eileen to pet, it had a good heart. Eileen couldn't wait to tell Maura.
